Maritime defence reaches new heights as President Zardari presides over ceremony in China
Pakistan has taken a landmark step in strengthening its naval capabilities as the country’s first Hangor-class submarine was formally commissioned into the Pakistan Navy at an impressive ceremony held in Sanya, China.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the commissioning ceremony was attended by President Asif Ali Zardari as the Guest of Honour, alongside Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, marking the occasion as one of the most significant moments in Pakistan’s maritime history.
Addressing the ceremony, President Zardari described the induction of PNS Hangor as a “historic milestone in the Pakistan Navy’s journey of modernisation.” He reaffirmed that Pakistan possesses the full capability to defend its sovereignty, protect its maritime interests, and secure its vital economic corridors.
“Pakistan is committed to maintaining a strong, balanced, and credible defence system,” the President stated.
The induction of the Hangor-class submarine is expected to significantly enhance Pakistan’s underwater warfare capabilities and strengthen its strategic deterrence in the region, signalling a new era in the country’s naval modernisation programme.
