Rawalpindi/Pakistan, — On the occasion of International Workers’ Day, leaders and citizens across Pakistan paid rich tributes to the country’s labor force, emphasizing their pivotal role as the backbone of the economy and society.
The day, observed globally on May 1, commemorates the historic struggles of workers, particularly the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago, where laborers fought for an eight-hour workday, fair wages, and better working conditions. These sacrifices laid the foundation for labor rights enjoyed worldwide today.
In a detailed message, Shafqatullah Waraich highlighted the contributions of workers, stating: “Workers are the backbone of every society—whether farmers in the fields, laborers in factories, construction workers, or those providing daily services. They are the real architects of economic progress.”
Waraich stressed that a strong and prosperous nation can only be built when its workers live with dignity. He pointed out persistent challenges faced by the labor class in Pakistan, including low wages, long working hours, lack of health facilities, and absence of social security.

“Contract workers, daily wagers, and third-party employees deserve special attention. Their regularization must become a priority,” he urged. He called upon all workers to unite for their legitimate rights.
The message also underlined the importance of health and family welfare for the labor class. “A healthy worker performs better and contributes more to national development. Easy access to basic healthcare, awareness, and family planning services is essential,” Waraich said. He appreciated government initiatives providing financial assistance, health, and education support to low-income segments.
Concluding his message, Shafqatullah Waraich appealed to society: “We must treat every worker around us with respect, safeguard their rights, and raise our voices for the resolution of their issues. A civilized society is one where every individual receives the reward of their labor.”
He ended with prayers for Pakistan’s security and prosperity: “May Allah protect Pakistan from internal and external enemies. Pakistan Zindabad!”
