LAHORE, May 4: Neurosurgeons at the Punjab Institute of Neurosciences (PINS) have achieved a remarkable medical breakthrough by successfully removing an iron rod that had penetrated a young man’s eye and brain.
The patient, Ali Hassan, a laborer from Pasrur, suffered a horrific accident while working at a steel mill. An iron rod pierced through his left eye, passed through critical areas of the brain, and exited from the back of his skull. He was rushed in critical condition from Gujranwala to Lahore for emergency treatment.
Executive Director PINS, Dr. Asif Bashir, promptly formed a specialized surgical team comprising Dr. Hafiz Abdul Majid, Dr. Khawar Zaman, and Dr. Wardah. Using advanced neurosurgical techniques, the team carried out a highly complex, multi-hour operation and successfully extracted the rod.
Following the surgery, the patient’s condition is steadily improving, reflecting the expertise and timely response of the medical team.
Dr. Asif Bashir stated that the successful procedure highlights the institute’s professional excellence, teamwork, and modern medical facilities. He added that, under the directives of Maryam Nawaz, PINS continues to upgrade its infrastructure to deliver world-class healthcare services.
He also commended the dedication of doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff, reaffirming the institute’s commitment to serving humanity with the highest standards of medical care.
