KABUL / ISLAMABAD — Senior ministers of Afghanistan’s interim government have reached out to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to offer condolences over the assassination of renowned religious scholar Sheikh Idrees.
Among those who expressed grief and condemnation were Afghan Defence Minister Mullah Yaqoob, Interior Minister Mullah Sirajuddin Haqqani, Foreign Minister Mullah Amir Khan Muttaqi, and official spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.
In their messages, Afghan ministers stated:
“The Afghan people, like the people of Pakistan, are deeply saddened by the martyrdom of Sheikh Idrees. This is a loss for the entire Muslim Ummah.”
The Afghan leadership strongly condemned the targeted killing and called for swift justice against the perpetrators. The outreach reflects the deep religious and cultural ties between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and highlights the regional significance of the slain scholar.
