Islamabad — Senator Vicente Azpitarte Pérez, Member of the Spanish Senate, called on Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in Islamabad, where both sides discussed expanding parliamentary cooperation, trade, cultural exchanges, and joint efforts on global issues.
Chairman Senate Gilani underscored the importance Pakistan attaches to its relations with Spain, particularly within the framework of the European Union. He thanked Spain for its support to Pakistan at international forums and highlighted the potential for closer cooperation in climate change, energy, and security.
Commending Spain’s stance on Palestine as a “historic step for peace and justice,” Gilani also reiterated Pakistan’s principled position on the Kashmir dispute, stressing that it must be resolved in line with UN Security Council resolutions. He cautioned that India’s unilateral actions in the region pose serious risks to peace and stability.
Gilani invited Spain to participate in the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference scheduled for November in Islamabad, noting that the forum would provide an opportunity to share experiences and strengthen parliamentary ties. He also praised the role of the Pakistani diaspora in Spain in reinforcing bilateral relations.
Senator Azpitarte Pérez reaffirmed Spain’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Pakistan, emphasizing enhanced parliamentary exchanges and joint strategies to tackle emerging global challenges.
Both sides agreed to expedite the exchange of delegations and revive cultural linkages to further strengthen bilateral ties.
