Prime Minister Announces Special Relief Scheme Amid Rising Oil Prices

Taking urgent notice of the growing burden on the public due to rising international oil prices — driven by recent tensions in the Middle East — the Prime Minister has announced a special relief scheme for citizens.
The Prime Minister said the government was fully aware of the burden being placed on the public by rising fuel prices, stating, “We will not leave the people alone in this difficult time.”
He said the scheme is being launched to ease the impact of higher fuel prices on users of motorcycles, rickshaws, chingchis, and small vehicles. Under the scheme:
Owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, chingchis, and other two- and three-wheelers will receive a relief of Rs 100 per litre on 20 litres of petrol per month.
Owners of small vehicles up to 800cc will receive a relief of Rs 100 per litre on 30 litres of petrol per month.
The Prime Minister said the scheme will take effect in Islamabad from the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, while across the rest of Pakistan — including Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan — it will be implemented from the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
Registration for the scheme has begun today, he said, and an awareness campaign will inform the public of the registration process. The Prime Minister also thanked the provinces for their cooperation in providing data on motorcycles, rickshaws, and small vehicles for the scheme.
