NEW YORK — On the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, a right-wing activist named Jake Lang led an anti-Muslim protest march in New York, which organizers called the “Crusader March.” Around 100 demonstrators gathered near City Hall and marched toward the 9/11 Memorial, chanting slogans including “Deport all Muslims” and “We love ICE.”
Near Ground Zero, marchers clashed with counter-protesters, leading to rising tensions. Police intervened and arrested at least one person, reportedly a counter-protester accused of striking a march participant. The confrontation unfolded while the annual reading of victims’ names was taking place nearby as part of the official 9/11 commemoration.
At the close of the memorial ceremony, Mike Massarolli — son of Michael Massarolli, a World Trade Center employee killed in the attacks — addressed the crowd, urging politicians and the public not to use the 9/11 tragedy to spread hatred against Muslims. He said remembering the victims was meant to honor those who lost their lives, not to fuel division.
