LISBON — A French woman and her partner have been taken into custody in Portugal after her two young sons, aged 3 and 5, were discovered abandoned on a rural road, authorities confirmed.
The woman faces charges of child abandonment following the disturbing incident, in which the two boys were left alone on a country road in Portugal. Her partner has also been charged in connection with the case.
Portuguese authorities launched an investigation after the children were found unaccompanied and vulnerable. The boys, both of French nationality, have since been taken into the care of child protection services while the case proceeds through the legal system.
The incident has drawn widespread concern over child safety and cross-border legal accountability within the European Union. Authorities in both France and Portugal are believed to be cooperating on the investigation.
