LAHORE — The Punjab government has deployed drone technology for the first time to monitor and coordinate its post-Eid ul-Adha sanitation operation, marking a significant shift toward tech-driven urban management.
According to Suthra Punjab, over 110,000 tonnes of sacrificial waste and remains were cleared across the province within the first two days of Eid, with Lahore alone accounting for more than 17,000 tonnes.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari stated that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is personally overseeing the operation. A workforce of 184,000 sanitation workers has been deployed across cities and villages, and streets are being washed with rosewater following the removal of waste — a tradition-meets-modernity approach that has drawn public praise.
The large-scale operation reflects the provincial government’s commitment to maintaining public hygiene during one of the most demanding periods of the Islamic calendar.
