GILGIT — Police detained Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar along with his associates at Henzal in Gilgit-Baltistan and subsequently expelled them from the region.
According to police officials, Junaid Akbar and his companions were taken into custody at the Henzal area before being escorted out of Gilgit-Baltistan. The move is seen as an effort to prevent PTI leadership from conducting election campaign activities in the region.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan strongly condemned the detention, calling it an unacceptable interference in the democratic process. “Detaining Junaid Akbar and blocking him from his election campaign is condemnable,” he said, urging authorities to respect the right to political participation.
The incident comes ahead of upcoming elections in Gilgit-Baltistan and has drawn sharp criticism from PTI ranks, with the party warning of further protests if such actions continue.
