GENEVA / NEW YORK — The United Nations has issued a stark warning that millions of lives are at risk in northern Yemen as the country faces a catastrophic food crisis driven by chronic underfunding and deteriorating conditions on the ground.
According to UN officials, the ongoing conflict, collapsing economy, and severe shortage of humanitarian funds have pushed Yemen to the brink of famine. Millions of children and women are reported to be suffering from acute malnutrition, while aid operations continue to face critical disruptions.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has urgently appealed to the international community for immediate financial support, warning that without swift action, the situation could spiral into one of the worst humanitarian catastrophes of the decade.
“Yemen cannot wait. Every day of delay costs lives,” a senior UN official stated.
