ISLAMABAD — Italy will provide employment opportunities to 10,500 Pakistanis over the next three years under a bilateral labour mobility framework, Italy’s Ambassador to Pakistan Marilina Armellin announced on Tuesday.

The announcement was made at a grand ceremony held in Islamabad to mark Italy’s National Day, attended by Pakistan’s top political leadership, diplomats, civil society representatives, the business community, and media.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Armellin said Italy remained firmly committed to deepening its partnership with Pakistan across labour mobility, education, and diplomacy. She also revealed that 3,200 scholarships had been awarded to Pakistani students for the 2025-26 academic year, enabling them to pursue higher education at Italian universities.
Noting that Italy hosts the largest Pakistani diaspora within the European Union, the ambassador said steps were being taken to improve consular access and streamline services for Pakistani citizens.
On regional affairs, Armellin expressed Italy’s full support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts amid the ongoing US-Iran tensions, describing Pakistan as a nation defined by friendship, generosity, and mutual respect.
Federal Minister for Energy Ali Pervaiz Malik, who served as chief guest, said Pakistan and Italy had completed 78 years of diplomatic relations and shared common values and objectives. He expressed hope that growing Pakistan-Europe strategic engagement would encourage more Italian companies to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan.
The ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting attended by Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Defence Minister Khwaja Muhammad Asif, Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi, and Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, reflecting the warmth of the growing bilateral relationship between the two nations.
