Wisconsin,
US President Donald Trump abruptly ended a live interview with NBC News anchor Kristen Welker, removing his microphone, placing it on the ground, and walking off set — leaving the Meet the Press host mid-conversation during a tense exchange in Wisconsin.
What Triggered the Walkout
The approximately 50-minute interview turned hostile when Welker pressed Trump on his claims of fraud in California’s primary elections. Trump responded by labeling NBC and American television networks as “one-sided and corrupt,” declaring: “Let’s end this — I’ve given enough time.”
When Welker reminded him that she had traveled a long distance to Wisconsin specifically for the interview, Trump countered that he had already spent over an hour standing in the rain answering questions.
In a now-viral sequence, Trump unclipped his microphone, set it on the ground, and left the location. However, as he departed, he placed his hand on Welker’s shoulder and remarked: “America cannot become great again with journalism like this.”
Behind the Scenes
The interview was recorded during Trump’s visit to Wisconsin, where heavy rain and repeated technical difficulties caused multiple interruptions throughout the session.
Welker later addressed the incident on social media, acknowledging that the severe weather had complicated the interview — but noting that substantial discussions on Iran, the economy, and other key issues had taken place before the walkout.
She also revealed that Trump contacted her the following day, and both agreed the rain had negatively affected the interview. Trump reportedly expressed willingness to return for a future Meet the Press interview.
Trump Admits He Lost His Temper
Speaking at a public event in Wisconsin shortly after, Trump himself acknowledged losing his composure, saying: “I got a little angry during the NBC interview. The heavy rain and the media’s attitude had put me in a bad mood — but overall the meeting was fine.”
