LAHORE, Pakistan: Principal of the Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI), Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal, has emphasized the importance of learning from senior medical educators, describing their vast clinical experience and observations as a valuable asset for young doctors entering the profession.
He urged young physicians to serve humanity through continuous learning, specialization, and the effective use of modern medical technologies while keeping pace with global developments in healthcare.
Prof. Afzal expressed these views while addressing the closing session of “ASCERT-2026” (Summer Clinical Enhancement and Resuscitation Training Program), a five-day specialized clinical training course organized by Amir-ud-Din Medical College (AMC) in Lahore.
The event was attended by a large number of faculty members, senior consultants, doctors, house officers, and postgraduate trainees, including Medical Superintendent Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Farah Shafie said the summer training program was launched last year on the initiative of Prof. Farooq Afzal and had received highly positive feedback, contributing to improved academic performance and examination results among participants.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Afzal described lifelong learning as an essential requirement of modern medical practice. He said specialized training programs and resuscitation workshops play a critical role in strengthening the professional competence and clinical skills of young doctors, enabling them to provide accurate diagnoses, effective treatment, and improved patient care.
“The Summer Clinical Enhancement Program has significantly strengthened the education and training of young doctors, and its benefits will ultimately be reflected in better healthcare outcomes for patients,” he said.
Prof. Afzal further noted that quality medical education, advanced research, and patient-centered policies are key factors that enable medical institutions to gain recognition at the international level.
Highlighting the role of mentorship in medical education, he said young physicians and medical students must fully benefit from the knowledge, experience, and clinical observations of senior faculty members. He stressed that true success in professional life comes from combining a strong academic foundation with practical clinical skills and a deep sense of responsibility toward patients.
During the five-day program, prominent medical educators including Prof. Javed Akram, Prof. Arshad Taqi, Prof. Majid Chaudhry, Prof. Arshad Chauhan, Prof. Moeed Iqbal, and Prof. Agha Shabbir Ali delivered lectures and conducted training sessions aimed at enhancing the professional capabilities of participating doctors.
The faculty provided hands-on training in patient history-taking, communication skills, emergency response procedures, and the management of complex clinical cases. Participants actively engaged in the sessions and refined their practical skills under the supervision of experienced specialists.
Senior speakers also underscored the importance of professional integrity, ethical conduct, dedication to duty, and patient-friendly behavior as essential qualities for medical practitioners.
Speaking to the media, Prof. Farooq Afzal described ASCERT-2026 as an effective platform for developing clinical expertise among young doctors and improving the quality of healthcare services.
