MUZAFFARABAD — In a landmark ruling, the Full Bench of the Azad Jammu & Kashmir High Court has directed the Election Commission of Azad Kashmir to officially register Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as a political party and restore its right to contest elections under its iconic “bat” electoral symbol.
The case was heard by a full larger bench of the High Court, which categorically rejected the Election Commission’s earlier refusal to register the party. The court ruled that PTI cannot be denied its constitutional and democratic rights.
The verdict is being seen as a major legal victory for PTI, coming at a time when the party has been facing significant electoral and legal challenges across Pakistan. Legal experts say the ruling could have broader implications for PTI’s political standing in the region.
PTI leaders welcomed the decision, calling it a triumph of the rule of law and constitutional democracy.
