Karachi: Mastermind behind Rangers camp attack, Qari Bashir, arrested; facilitator network exposed

KARACHI — The network of facilitators involved in the attack on the Rangers camp in Gulistan-e-Johar has been exposed, and the attack’s mastermind, Qari Bashir, has been arrested by Rangers.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, addressing a press conference alongside Sindh IG Javed Alam, Additional IG CTD Zulfiqar Larik, and SSP CTD Irfan Bahadur, said that on June 27, four terrorists attacked the Karachi Transport Company of Sindh Rangers. Three of the attackers were from Afghanistan, while one belonged to Bajaur and had lived in Afghanistan for 20 years.
The interior minister said all the terrorists’ handlers were directing them from Afghanistan, and their objective was to take hostages and cause casualties. However, in a successful operation by Sindh Rangers, three terrorists were killed and one was arrested in an injured condition, thwarting the enemy’s nefarious designs.
SSP CTD Irfan Bahadur, briefing media, said the terrorist plot could be divided into four stages: planning in Afghanistan, transporting the terrorists into Pakistan, support from a facilitator network, and finally the supply of weapons and suicide vests.
He said the suicide attackers included Janan Afghani, a resident of Bajaur, and Umar Farooq, a resident of Kunar, Afghanistan, while the fourth terrorist, who was captured alive, belongs to Nangarhar province.
According to the SSP CTD, those involved in planning the attack include Noor Wali, Sher Ali, Saeed Shah, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar chief Basir alias Ahrar, and others. The mastermind of the attack, Qari Bashir, had been specially summoned from Pakistan to Afghanistan and given this task. Rangers arrested Qari Bashir during an operation, and he has confessed to all crimes related to planning the attack during investigation.
