Tehran/Washington: Iran has allowed an American woman to leave the country despite ongoing tensions with the United States, a move welcomed by U.S. President Donald Trump as a gesture of goodwill.
In a post on social media, President Trump said the woman had been “wrongfully detained” during the Biden administration in 2024 and praised Iran’s decision, describing it as a positive humanitarian step.
Human rights lawyer Jared Genser identified the released U.S. citizen as Dena Karari. According to Genser, she had been prevented from leaving Iran since December 2024 but has now been granted permission to depart the country.
The development comes amid continued diplomatic and security tensions between Tehran and Washington. Analysts say the decision could be viewed as a confidence-building measure, although broader disputes between the two countries remain unresolved.
