LAHORE: To mark Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, Lahore Marina Boat Club and Rescue 1122 organized an enthusiastic boat rally from the Upper Chenab Canal in Sharqpur Sharif to Head Balloki.
Punjab Emergency Services Secretary Dr. Rizwan Naseer was the special guest at the event, while Chairman Pakistan Media Writers Club Iftikhar Khan, along with a delegation of senior journalists and members of the club, participated in the rally.
The Pakistan Media Writers Club delegation included senior journalist Fazal Hussain Awan, Muhammad Shoaib Mirza, General Secretary Nabila Akbar, Mubashara Sultan, Asim Latif, Dr. Amanat Ali Asjad, Hamid Ali Ammar Khan and Momina Fatima.
The Independence Day celebrations were not limited to streets, markets, buildings and highways decorated with the national flag; the green crescent flag was also proudly displayed on the waters of the Ravi River.
Participants enjoyed a four-and-a-half-hour journey along the river. Despite rainfall at several points during the journey, the rally continued without interruption. Rescue 1122 personnel professionally operated the motorboats and ensured the safe arrival of the participants at Head Balloki.
When the rally reached Head Balloki in convoy, Punjab Emergency Services Secretary Dr. Rizwan Naseer personally welcomed the participants on the Ravi River while riding a jet ski.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Rizwan Naseer and CEO Lahore Marina Boat Club Humayun Butt said the purpose of the grand rally was to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day in a dignified and unique manner, promote water sports and create public awareness about the potential of waterways for commercial transportation.
They said greater use of waterways for commercial purposes could help reduce dependence on petroleum products and potentially save billions of rupees in transportation costs.
At the conclusion of the event, mementos were presented to the participants, while certificates and shields were also distributed in recognition of their participation.
