LAHORE, August 21: Philanthropists have donated medicines worth Rs 5 million to Lahore General Hospital (LGH), demonstrating their continued trust in the institution. The donated medicines will be distributed free of cost among deserving OPD patients.
Speaking at the ceremony, Principal Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal said that people who selflessly serve suffering humanity are the true assets and beauty of society. He said that, alongside government efforts, the support of philanthropists for public hospitals is a commendable practice that provides immediate relief to poor patients and strengthens public confidence in state healthcare institutions.
Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal said LGH is one of Punjab’s major healthcare facilities, providing treatment to thousands of patients every day. He added that such donations would reduce the financial burden on the hospital administration and contribute to improving the quality of treatment and patient care.
Medical Superintendent LGH Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain assured that all donated medicines would be distributed transparently and exclusively among deserving patients. He said the hospital pharmacy would ensure uninterrupted medicine availability from 8am to 8pm daily for the convenience of more than 5,000 OPD patients visiting the hospital each day.
Dr. Samina Taufiq, Dr. Amara Akhtar, Dr. Kausar Shaheen, Dr. Abdul Aziz, Saima Fateh, Adeel Sarfraz and other healthcare professionals were also present on the occasion.
During a media interaction, Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal emphasized that cooperation among the government, medical community and philanthropists is essential for strengthening public hospitals. The donors appreciated the discipline and performance of LGH and reaffirmed their commitment to continue supporting the hospital in the future.
