On NewsNation’s “On Balance,” Bill O’Reilly said President Donald Trump will not allow Iran to appear “defeated” because Trump’s political legacy is now tied to the conflict and he views matters in terms of winners and losers. O’Reilly suggested the U.S. has tougher options toward Iran but said he was not privy to operational details, calling them “highly secret and classified.” Although he described Trump’s February 28 decision to start the confrontation as a “mistake” that harmed the Republican Party’s midterm prospects, O’Reilly insisted Trump must emerge from the conflict seen as victorious. He noted rising diesel and food prices—partly blamed on the Strait of Hormuz disruption—have become a major problem for the Trump administration and the GOP. O’Reilly’s remarks come as Trump has threatened strikes on Oman and asserted U.S. control of the Strait of Hormuz, claims Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi dismissed, saying the waterway is and will remain Iranian.
