ISLAMABAD: Former President of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Dr. Ashraf Nizami has expressed deep sorrow and concern over the reported deaths of 15 newborn babies at PIMS Islamabad, describing the incident as a tragic and unacceptable loss.

In a statement, Dr. Ashraf Nizami said the incident was not merely a failure of medical administration but an irreparable tragedy for 15 families who had lost their newborn children.

He demanded an immediate, transparent and impartial inquiry into the incident and called for official accountability of all those found responsible.

Dr. Nizami said the affected families must be informed of the complete facts, provided all possible support and offered a formal apology by the authorities for the tragic loss.

He also called upon the Federal Minister for Health to accept moral and administrative responsibility and resign from office, saying that an incident of such gravity required accountability at the highest responsible level.

“The families and the public deserve not assurances, but accountability, action against those responsible and concrete measures to ensure that such a tragedy is never repeated,” he said.
