LAHORE: Providing patients with the best possible treatment and quality care is the foundation of an effective healthcare system, while nurses play an integral role in ensuring quality healthcare services, Principal Amiruddin Medical College (AMC) Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal has said.

He stressed that regular training workshops for nurses are essential to enhance their professional skills and keep them abreast of modern medical requirements.

Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal expressed these views during a meeting with DMS Nursing Dr. Sundus Tahir and Acting Deputy Chief Nursing Superintendent (DCNS) of Lahore General Hospital (LGH) Saima Fateh at his office.

The Principal said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was taking revolutionary steps to provide the best possible medical facilities to patients in public hospitals.

“Nurses are the backbone of any healthcare system. Therefore, continuous training workshops must be organised to further strengthen their professional capabilities, expertise and knowledge,” he said.

During the meeting, DMS Nursing Dr. Sundus Tahir gave a detailed briefing on the operations and performance of the hospital’s Day Care Centre. Acting DCNS Saima Fateh briefed the Principal on the daily working of nursing staff, duty rosters and issues being faced by nurses.

Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal assured the nursing administration that all official and administrative issues of nurses would be addressed on a priority basis, enabling them to perform their duties in a conducive environment and without undue mental stress.

He said nurses were a shining example of service to suffering humanity, remaining engaged day and night in caring for patients and helping alleviate their pain.

“The nursing profession is not merely a job; it is a form of service to humanity. The compassionate attitude and good manners of nurses contribute significantly to patients’ recovery and give them hope,” he added.

The Principal said the hospital administration would continue taking all possible measures to ensure a conducive working environment and promote the welfare of nursing staff, enabling them to serve patients with greater passion, dedication and professionalism.
