The Israeli military has carried out an airstrike in Qatar, killing senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya.
Israeli media claimed that Hamas negotiators in Doha were targeted through a series of explosions. In a statement from Tel Aviv, the Israeli army acknowledged striking senior Hamas leaders in Doha.
Earlier, multiple blasts were reported in Doha’s Katara district following Israeli bombardment. Hamas sources said several senior leaders were meeting at the time of the attack to discuss U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for a Gaza ceasefire.
According to Arab media, the meeting included senior Hamas figures Khaled Meshaal, Khalil al-Hayya, Zaher Jabarin, Mohammed Darwish, and Mousa Abu Marzouk.
An Israeli official told reporters that the U.S. was informed ahead of the strike and had assisted in the operation.
Qatar: “Israel Attacked Our Sovereignty”
In response, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attack on Hamas leaders’ residences in Doha, calling it a blatant assault on the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The ministry said the criminal strike was a violation of international law and posed a grave threat to the safety of both Qatari citizens and foreign residents. It added that investigations are underway and further details will be released in due course.
