JEDDAH — The General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned attacks by the Houthi group around the areas of Mecca and Medina, as well as ongoing aggression against Saudi Arabia. According to the OIC statement, these attacks instill fear among innocent civilians, violate the sanctity of holy sites and mosques, and inflame the sentiments of Muslims worldwide.
The General Secretariat affirmed that actions carried out by the Houthi “terrorist militia” against holy sites, mosques, and civilian infrastructure constitute terrorism, in violation of both Islamic values and international norms and laws. The statement stressed that violating the sanctity of holy sites is unacceptable and intolerable, and that those responsible must be deterred.
The OIC expressed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and voiced support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to repel aggressors, protect the sanctity of holy sites and the lives of Muslims, and safeguard its security and sovereignty.
The condemnation comes amid escalating regional tensions, as the Houthis have also stepped up operations around the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb strait — a critical route for global maritime trade. Following disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz during the Iran war, the Red Sea route has become increasingly important for Saudi Arabia as an alternative channel for its oil exports.
