Trump Wants to Rename Artificial Intelligence, Offers Three Alternatives

Washington, Sept 20: US President Donald Trump has said the term “artificial intelligence” is inaccurate and proposed renaming it, inviting people to vote on social media. He offered three options: “Superior Intelligence,” “Extreme Intelligence” and “Supreme Intelligence.”
Calling AI’s rise a “revolution,” Trump said he would not allow efforts to weaken or destroy the industry and its data centers. He criticized liberals, saying they want “AI’s destruction.”
The president also announced plans for a new government “AI Force,” which he said would be tasked with finding “bad” actors. He said an AI coordinator, or “czar,” would be named soon but gave no further details.
Speaking to reporters at his golf club in Doonbeg, Ireland, Trump dismissed concerns about AI as a “hoax,” comparing them to climate change, and said, “Whoever wins AI wins.” He said guardrails could be put in place, but that many negative forces were pushing things that would not happen. On Truth Social, he wrote that AI only needed the “guardrails” of a “strong and smart” president.
Meanwhile, China’s foreign ministry said all parties should work together on AI. Spokesperson Guo Jiakun told a press conference that “fear-mongering, confrontation and vicious competition will only damage global AI governance, benefiting no one.”
The debate flared up again after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei proposed a three-part plan to manage the pace of frontier AI development. He argued that AI systems are increasingly able to help build more advanced models, raising concerns about how fast the technology could advance.
