CDA Continues Anti-Encroachment Drive on Islamabad Expressway East, Action Begun Against 377 Illegal Structures

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is continuing a comprehensive anti-encroachment and building control operation along Islamabad Expressway East. The drive is being carried out under the authority’s policy of keeping Islamabad free of encroachments, ensuring planned development and enforcing building regulations.
According to the CDA, action has been initiated against a total of 377 identified structures in the designated stretch of the expressway, including 281 commercial structures. The operation targets unauthorised construction, unauthorised commercial activity and other violations under building control regulations and land-use laws.
The authority said around Rs3 billion is outstanding for land conversion charges and violations related to unauthorised construction, setbacks, floor area ratio (FAR) and covered area. About Rs720 million was recovered during the previous enforcement campaign, while roughly Rs100 million has been collected so far in the ongoing operation.
Action has been taken against more than 140 violating structures to date. The operation covers the area from Sawan Dehati through Iqbal Town and Khanna Pul, and Koral Bridge to Koral/Gulberg Greens. Between Sawan and Khanna Pul, 124 structures have been identified and marked, and demolition has begun.
The operation is being carried out in line with the vision of Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, by the CDA’s Building Control Section in cooperation with the Enforcement Directorate and district administration.
The CDA said sealed premises will remain sealed until the identified violations are rectified and all legal and regularisation procedures are completed, subject to approval by the competent authority. No sealed premises will be allowed to resume activity in violation of the rules. The authority said the drive will continue to make Islamabad an encroachment-free, orderly and planned city.
