Russia Elections: Ruling United Russia Party Secures Clear Majority

Moscow (Agency) — President Vladimir Putin’s ruling United Russia party has secured a decisive victory in early results of Russia’s parliamentary elections. According to the Central Election Commission, the party won 355 of the 450 seats in the State Duma, surpassing its previous record of 343 seats from the 2016 elections. United Russia received roughly 58% of the vote for the 225 seats allocated through federal party lists, and is expected to win a strong majority in the remaining 225 single-mandate constituencies as well.
The three-day voting process, held amid ongoing wartime conditions, included voters from four Ukrainian regions Moscow unilaterally annexed after 2022 — still under Russian occupation — as well as Crimea, annexed in 2014. The EU condemned these moves as a clear violation of international law. Several opposition parties, including the anti-war Yabloko party, were barred from the vote, and reports emerged of voters being pushed toward electronic terminals over paper ballots. Russia also declined to invite OSCE observers to monitor the election.
