Palestinians in Gaza buried 105 bodies and remains recovered from the rubble of the Taj residential complex on Yarmouk Street, after a long wait. The funeral was held in the courtyard of the destroyed site with support from Civil Defense, the Egyptian committee and an alliance of affected families. Medics and rescue volunteers laid out the shrouded bodies near the ruins, where relatives gathered for a final farewell.
Civil Defense said the recovery operation took 17 days before the search of the targeted area was completed. Spokesman Mahmoud Basal described the effort as extremely difficult and renewed calls for protection and the right to life and safety for Gaza’s residents. Other families are still waiting to reach their loved ones, as a shortage of heavy machinery and Israeli restrictions continue to hamper search and clearance work.
Separately, in central Gaza, Civil Defense crews began a search on Thursday evening at the al-Sheikh Ali family home, nearly 21 months after it was hit. They recovered the remains of seven people killed in the strike on December 12, 2024.
