TEHRAN — A severe collision occurred between two cargo vessels near the northern part of Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz off Iran’s coast, causing serious damage to one of the ships.
According to Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency, the incident took place when a large cargo vessel collided violently with another ship. The impact was so severe that the lower section of the affected vessel sustained major damage, causing water to rapidly flood in and raising the risk of it sinking.
Iranian authorities and rescue teams launched an immediate operation upon receiving reports of the incident. Acting swiftly, they safely evacuated all 23 foreign crew members aboard the vessel and transferred them to Qeshm Island.
