LONDON (International Desk): Marking three years since the Gaza war began, protests, marches, sit-ins and student demonstrations were held across several continents in solidarity with Palestinians and calling for an end to Israeli military operations.
According to Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism, 262 pro-Palestinian events were identified in 37 countries, 75 of them on October 7. A further 121 events are expected on October 10 and 11. The US (45), Spain (40), Australia (21) and the UK (19) recorded the most events.
In Berlin, hundreds marched, including climate activist Greta Thunberg, demanding an end to the war and a halt to German arms supplies to Israel. In the Netherlands, sit-ins were held at railway stations in Utrecht, Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
In London, police arrested five people at one protest over alleged pro-“intifada” chants; arrests across the day’s demonstrations totaled 11. In New York, hundreds gathered near City Hall, and over 70 protested outside Columbia University. In Mexico City, demonstrators outside the Israeli embassy demanded an immediate ceasefire.
