WASHINGTON (International Desk): President Donald Trump said on Thursday that anyone who keeps using “artificial intelligence” (AI) instead of his preferred term “superintelligence” (SI) will be considered an “enemy” of the White House.
In a Truth Social post, he wrote that the White House regards as an enemy anyone who uses “artificial intelligence” rather than the “widely accepted, newer and more accurate” term “superintelligence.” Trump has argued that “artificial” wrongly suggests the technology is fake.
The report says the statement hints the White House could penalise companies or individuals who decline to adopt the term, which, if enforced, could raise First Amendment concerns.
In late September, after meeting industry leaders, Trump signed an executive order directing federal departments and agencies, “to the maximum extent permitted by law,” to use “superintelligence” and “SI” instead of “artificial intelligence” and “AI” in official correspondence, public communications and websites. The order does not apply to private firms such as OpenAI, as the White House lacks legal authority to enforce it in the private sector.
Even so, Elon Musk announced on X that SpaceX will rename its AI division, SpaceXAI, as SpaceXSI to align with the administration’s preferred branding. Companies such as Meta already run “superintelligence” labs, but those labels were meant to signal future ambitions rather than reject the term “AI.”
