NEW DELHI — Indian authorities imposed sweeping restrictions in the capital ahead of a planned protest by the Cockroach Janta Party, cancelling more than 250 trains to and from New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations and closing entry and exit points at 57 Delhi Metro stations.
Police detained hundreds of demonstrators in a bid to stop the rally at Jantar Mantar, according to reports. Those held include the party’s founder, Abhijeet Dipke, party leaders Sourav Das and Ashutosh, and prominent YouTuber Dhruv Rathee.
