ISLAMABAD — Report By Muhammad Saleem
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to standing shoulder to shoulder with Saudi Arabia in safeguarding its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, amid a recent escalation in Houthi attacks against the Kingdom.
The Prime Minister made these remarks during a meeting with the newly arrived Saudi Ambassador, H.E. Dr. Rajeh Tami Albugamy, at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad. He congratulated the envoy on assuming his responsibilities and wished him success in his diplomatic assignment.
PM Shehbaz said Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations had witnessed remarkable progress in recent years. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening institutional mechanisms to deepen bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
He strongly condemned the recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, which resulted in loss of lives and injuries to innocent people, including Pakistani nationals. The Prime Minister said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had always stood by each other, adding that the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement and the Makkah Joint Defence Alliance reflected their shared commitment to regional peace and security.
PM Shehbaz also thanked the Saudi leadership for its longstanding economic and financial support to Pakistan and assured the new ambassador of Pakistan’s full cooperation in further strengthening fraternal ties.
