Ukraine launched more than 1,000 drones at targets across Russia in one of its largest aerial attacks of the war, setting fire to oil facilities in St Petersburg. Russian officials said one person was killed and five others injured.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces shot down 1,015 Ukrainian drones overnight. The strikes targeted the St Petersburg Oil Terminal and the Ruchi oil depot, while a logistics centre and a data centre were also hit.
The attack came amid worsening tensions between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump called Ukraine’s renewed strikes on Russian oil refineries “a disgrace” and accused Zelensky of having little interest in ending the war.
Ukraine says it will no longer observe the energy ceasefire because Russia has continued attacking its power infrastructure. Kyiv says Russian forces have carried out 76 attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector since the ceasefire was announced.
Meanwhile, Russia continued strikes on Ukrainian energy, oil and gas facilities. In Kyiv, a Russian air strike killed one woman and injured three others, damaging a metro station, residential buildings and a medical facility.
Reports say Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a summit with Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping next month to discuss ending the war, though the meeting has not yet been confirmed.
