No Compromise on Law and Order in Malakand Division, Says Zahid Nawaz Marwat
By Dr Ansab Ali | Lahore, Pakistan
SWAT: Regional Police Officer (RPO) Malakand Region Zahid Nawaz Marwat has said that there will be no compromise on maintaining law and order in Swat and other districts of Malakand Division, adding that indiscriminate operations against terrorists will continue.
He said there was no room for individuals who took the law into their own hands or attempted to disrupt peace. He added that police were also intensifying their crackdown on criminal elements and drug dealers.
The RPO expressed these views while speaking to the media during a Meet the Press event at Swat Press Club. Additional Deputy Inspector General Naeem Hussain and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Kaleem Ullah Khan were also present.
Zahid Nawaz Marwat said effective measures were being taken to improve traffic management in Mingora, eliminate illegal bus stands and take action against illegal rickshaws and other vehicles operating in violation of traffic laws.
He said enforcement would be intensified and no concessions would be given to violators. He added that parking facilities would be made mandatory in commercial plazas under construction in Mingora, and their owners had already been informed of the requirement.
Notices would also be issued to plaza owners who failed to comply with parking requirements to ensure adequate parking arrangements and prevent traffic congestion and obstructions for commuters.
The RPO said action was also being taken to remove illegal bus stands, while legal proceedings against unauthorised rickshaws and other vehicles violating traffic regulations were already underway. He described improving the traffic system as a key priority and said practical measures were being implemented to facilitate public movement.
He further said a comprehensive crackdown had been launched against criminal elements and drug dealers, adding that police were utilising all available resources to maintain peace and security throughout the region.
The RPO said meetings were being held with local elders and representatives of various organisations to bridge the gap between police and the public, strengthen mutual trust and encourage community participation in maintaining law and order.
He emphasised that effective communication between police and citizens was essential to achieving lasting peace through joint efforts.
Zahid Nawaz Marwat said police were committed to serving and protecting the public. He added that steps would be taken to ensure courteous behaviour towards citizens at police stations and establish special complaint desks to address public grievances promptly.
These facilities, he said, would help visitors register complaints and obtain legal assistance without unnecessary difficulties.
The RPO reiterated that all lawful measures would continue to uphold the rule of law, combat crime, improve traffic management and strengthen public confidence in the police across Malakand Division.
