PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced Rs160 billion in federal funding for development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with 70 percent allocated for merged districts and 30 percent for other districts.
Addressing tribal elders and members of the Area Representative Development Council at the Peshawar Governor’s House, the prime minister said every rupee of public money would be spent on development and prosperity. He directed authorities to immediately remove obstacles delaying development schemes.
Shehbaz Sharif said tribal communities had made unmatched sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to fully empowering the 40-member elected tribal council.
He assured the province of federal support to address wheat shortages, warned against hoarding and directed officials to ensure wheat availability to the public at federally provided rates.
On security, he pledged all necessary resources for counterterrorism operations, police capacity-building, improved training and early completion of Safe City projects.
The prime minister also alleged that Rs100 billion had been misused in drinking-water projects and Rs37 billion in Kohistan during the previous provincial government, saying misuse of provincial resources would be stopped.
Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and federal cabinet members attended the meeting.
