Suspected cyberattacks have disrupted refrigeration systems at supermarkets across several European countries, causing fridge and freezer temperatures to rise sharply and forcing retailers to discard potentially spoiled food. Stores in Belgium, Sweden, Luxembourg, Ireland, the Netherlands, Estonia and Finland were among those affected۔
In Belgium, around 40 Delhaize supermarkets and 15 Carrefour stores were affected, while several Delhaize outlets in Luxembourg also reported problems. In Ireland, cooling systems at 13 SuperValu stores were hit, prompting the company to remove chilled and frozen products from sale as a precaution.
In Sweden, several ICA and Coop stores were affected; an ICA store in Sjöbo said its refrigerators and freezers had been remotely set to 50 degrees Celsius. European authorities have raised concerns over possible disruption to food supply chains, and Belgium has launched an investigation into the incidents.
