New Delhi, The Indian government has confirmed that the film Abeer Gulal, starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor, will not be released in India.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) issued a clarification on Saturday, denying reports that the romantic drama would hit cinemas across India on 26 September. “The film Abeer Gulal will not be released in India,” the PIB statement said.
The film’s cast also includes veteran actress Farida Jalal, Lisa Haydon, Ridhi Dogra, Soni Razdan, and Parmeet Sethi. Originally scheduled for release on 9 May, the film was pulled after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which prompted renewed calls within India’s film industry for a ban on Pakistani artists.
Following the incident, songs from Abeer Gulal were also removed from Indian platforms. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has reiterated its stance on barring Pakistani talent from Indian projects.
