Lahore. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has stressed that democracy is not merely a system of governance, but a lasting bond of trust between the state and its people.
In her message on the International Day of Democracy, Maryam Nawaz said, “The true source of power lies with the people. Their voice is the first step toward progress. Any attempt to shape opinion through discord, violence, or chaos undermines the very spirit of democracy.”
She further noted that democracy ensures that power reaches people at their doorsteps. “Without democracy, there can be no sustainable economic growth. A strong democracy opens the doors to education, provides facilities, and fulfills the dreams of our youth,” she stated.
Calling democracy “a mirror that allows nations to see and correct their mistakes”, she emphasized that differences of opinion must be seen as the beauty of democracy, not hostility. “This is the lesson we must pass on to future generations,” she added.
The Chief Minister underlined that Pakistan’s democracy must not only be preserved but strengthened and refined. “We will make democracy a legacy for future generations – a treasure that withstands the storms of time and serves as an example for the world,” she said.
