Pakistan’s Auditor General has revealed massive financial irregularities amounting to over Rs78 billion in the Ministry of Communications, with the bulk of the discrepancies — nearly Rs50 billion — linked to Pakistan Post.
According to the audit report, Pakistan Post alone recorded corruption and theft of Rs284 million, along with irregularities of Rs1.25 billion in its human resources department. The report further highlighted questionable procurements worth Rs2.84 billion.
Additionally, the ministry incurred a loss of Rs4.58 billion due to maintaining accounts in commercial banks. In 12 separate cases, non-recoveries totaled Rs9.42 billion, while another 13 cases involved irregularities exceeding Rs58 billion.
The Auditor General has recommended strict action against those responsible in Pakistan Post, calling for compliance with PPRA rules in procurement, and urging reforms to turn loss-making post offices into profitable entities.
