Peshawar/Islamabad — Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan challenging Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) victory in constituency NA-43, escalating a legal battle over the disputed seat.
PTI leader Asad Mehmood strongly rejected the move, asserting that ballot papers are the true and original proof of the public mandate. He demanded that the Election Tribunal’s verdict dated December 1, 2025, be declared null and void, arguing that the decision did not reflect the will of the voters.
The Election Tribunal had issued its ruling on December 1, 2025, regarding the NA-43 dispute, following which JUI has now approached the apex court seeking a reversal of the outcome that favored PTI.
The case is being seen as part of the broader political rivalry between PTI and JUI in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where both parties have been engaged in intense electoral competition. The Supreme Court’s decision on the petition is expected to have significant implications for the political landscape of the region.
Legal and political observers are closely monitoring the proceedings, as the ruling could set a precedent for similar post-election disputes across the country.
