In observance of International Dyslexia Awareness Day, Pakistan Post, in collaboration with the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) and the Institute of Dyslexia Education and Attitudinal Studies (IDEAS), unveiled a commemorative Dyslexia Awareness Stamp at a special ceremony held at IRS Islamabad. The initiative aims to promote inclusive education and raise national awareness about learning differences.
Welcoming the participants, Ambassador Jauhar Saleem, President of IRS, stressed the importance of empathy, awareness, and policy reform to create inclusive societies. “Dyslexia is a learning difference that compels educators, policymakers, and researchers to rethink how learning is perceived and supported,” he remarked. He noted that the stamp—approved by the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Communications—reflects Pakistan’s commitment to educational inclusivity.
Parliamentary Secretary Ms. Zeb Jaffar, who played a leading role in the Dyslexia Special Measures Act 2022, highlighted the need for sustained advocacy and community engagement. “Every child is unique and deserves equal opportunity and encouragement to reach their full potential,” she stated.
Ms. Irum Mumtaz, Educationist and Founder of IDEAS, emphasized the role of early diagnosis and specialized teaching methods in addressing dyslexia. “Awareness is the first step toward acceptance,” she said, calling for collaborative efforts to create learning environments where all students can thrive.
Representing Pakistan Post, Sqn Ldr (R) Maqsood Ahmed, Additional Director General, commended the partnership between Pakistan Post, IRS, and IDEAS. “Pakistan Post takes pride in using its national platform to raise awareness for social causes. The Dyslexia Stamp is a tribute to every child who learns differently yet brilliantly,” he remarked.
The event featured the unveiling of the Dyslexia Awareness Stamp, with NUML student Abu Obaidah presenting the creative design concept. Class 7 student Muhammad Youshay received special recognition for designing the First Day Cover Envelope, showcasing youth participation in advocacy for inclusive education.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Senior Research Fellow at IRS, highlighted that recognizing dyslexia is vital for building a society where every learner can achieve their full potential. He thanked Pakistan Post’s leadership, including DG Samiullah Khan and ADG Maqsood Ahmed, for championing inclusivity through national initiatives.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Irum Mumtaz, who praised the collaboration among public institutions and advocacy groups in promoting dyslexia awareness across Pakistan.
