Islamabad – Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, has announced a significant increase in welfare grants for workers and labourers under the Workers Welfare Fund.
In a video message, the minister said the marriage grant has been raised from Rs. 400,000 to Rs. 600,000, while the death grant has been enhanced to Rs. 1 million, with the new rates effective this year.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain emphasized that the decision reflects Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision to improve the lives of labourers. He recalled his Labour Day pledge to fight for workers’ rights, stressing that the government’s approach is focused on practical politics that serves the people.
The minister lauded the Workers Welfare Fund for its unparalleled role in labour welfare, noting that reforms are underway to make institutions profitable and aligned with international standards. He added that concrete measures are being taken daily to deliver real benefits to workers.
Labour unions and federations across Pakistan welcomed the announcement, describing it as a historic step that has boosted workers’ morale. They also praised Minister Salik Hussain and Secretary Workers Welfare Fund, Zulfikar Ahmad, reaffirming their trust in the government’s labour welfare agenda.
