The Sindh Assembly has approved a significant increase in the salaries and allowances of its members, raising the total package from PKR 155,000 to approximately PKR 450,000.
The bill to raise salaries was presented on August 8 and unanimously passed by the assembly. Following its passage, a parliamentary committee headed by Speaker Awais Shah — with opposition leader Ali Khurshidi and representatives of all political parties — finalized the decision.
During the committee meeting, all parties including the PPP, MQM, and PTI supported the raise, while only Jamaat-e-Islami opposed it.
Key Revisions:
Basic salary: increased from PKR 50,000 → PKR 300,000
Office maintenance allowance: PKR 15,000
Telephone allowance: PKR 10,000
House rent allowance: PKR 50,000
Mobile allowance: PKR 10,000
Utility allowance: PKR 20,000
Daily allowance: raised from PKR 1,000 → PKR 3,000
Conveyance allowance: raised from PKR 1,000 → PKR 3,000
This marks a 200% increase in salaries and perks for provincial lawmakers.
