Karachi,The University of Karachi Syndicate, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, has unanimously approved a plan to reclaim university land currently under illegal occupation.
During the special session, the Syndicate resolved to immediately engage with all relevant authorities to ensure the retrieval of the occupied land. The body also approved the hiring of an experienced legal firm specializing in land recovery and anti-encroachment litigation.
A five-member committee has been formed to oversee the process, comprising:
Former Vice Chancellor and Syndicate Member Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser
Former Karachi Commissioner and Syndicate Member Dr. Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui
Syndicate Member Prof. Dr. Saleha Rehman
Finance Director Syed Jahanzeb
Director of Legal Affairs Asif Mukhtar
The committee will provide the appointed legal firm with all relevant documentation and support. The Syndicate also approved the deployment of special security guards dedicated to patrolling and monitoring university land to prevent further encroachments.
Addressing the session, VC Dr. Iraqi said this was the first meeting of its kind in the university’s history, aimed at safeguarding “every inch” of its land. He emphasized that no compromise would be tolerated on this issue and praised civil society and the media for their role in exposing land mafias.
The Syndicate lauded Dr. Iraqi’s initiative, describing it as a landmark step and a model for other institutions facing similar challenges.
