LAHORE — Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has paid heartfelt tribute to the 14 police officers and officials who embraced martyrdom in three coordinated terrorist attacks carried out in Lahore in 2009.
Speaking on the 16th anniversary of the tragedy, Dr. Anwar said, “We salute the great sons who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Punjab Police will never forget their eternal sacrifices and the courage of their families.”
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, terrorists targeted three key locations on that day — the Elite Police Training School, Police Training School Manawan, and the FIA Building. In total, 14 personnel laid down their lives defending the province against terrorism.
In the attack on Police Training School Manawan, 10 officers were martyred; three officers lost their lives at the Elite Police Training School, and one officer was killed in the suicide bombing at the FIA Building.
The martyred officers included 2 Inspectors, 2 Sub-Inspectors, 1 ASI, 1 Head Constable, 5 Constables, and 3 Driver Constables. Among them were Inspector Rana Farooq, ASI Ghulam Jaffar, Constable Irfan Bukhari, Sajid Hussain Shah, Inspector Salamat Ali, Sub-Inspectors Muhammad Anwar and Muhammad Aslam, Head Constable Muhammad Tahir, Constables Muhammad Shakeel, Muhammad Asif, Shahid Ali, and Driver Constables Zaheer Ahmad, Saifullah, and Nasrullah.
Dr. Usman Anwar reaffirmed that the Punjab Police remains steadfast in its fight against terrorism and continues to honor the legacy of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for peace and security
