Houston, Texas:
In a remarkable act of philanthropy, Houston-based billionaire couple Nancy and Rich Kinder have announced plans to donate 95% of their wealth — equivalent to about $11.2 billion (PKR 29 trillion) — to charitable causes.
The couple, known for their extensive community work in Texas, said their fortune will primarily support education, urban development, and public welfare initiatives through the Kinder Foundation, which they established in 1997.
Rich Kinder, co-founder and executive chairman of Kinder Morgan, one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America, emphasized that wealth should serve society.
> “Our goal has always been to make Houston and other communities stronger and more equitable. We’re simply giving back what we’ve been fortunate to earn,” Kinder stated.
The couple’s donation ranks among the largest philanthropic commitments in U.S. history, drawing comparisons to pledges made by Bill and Melinda Gates, Warren Buffett, and MacKenzie Scott.
The Kinder Foundation has previously funded major projects in Houston, including the transformation of Buffalo Bayou Park and various education programs. With this new pledge, the Kinders aim to expand their global impact, setting an example of large-scale private philanthropy amid growing wealth inequality.
