Rawalpindi, Pakistan:
An anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi has once again issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Aleema Khan, sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, after she failed to appear in court in a case related to protests held on November 26, 2023.
Judge Amjad Ali Shah presided over the hearing, which involved 11 accused individuals linked to the protest. While ten of the defendants appeared before the court, Aleema Khan remained absent despite previous warrants for her arrest.
The court declared a police report claiming Aleema Khan was in hiding as bogus, ordered the confiscation of her surety bonds worth PKR 100,000, and issued a show-cause notice to her guarantor, Umar Sharif, directing him to submit a response by October 24.
Additionally, the court ordered Aleema Khan to submit two new surety bonds worth PKR 1 million each, reaffirming that her non-bailable arrest warrants remain in effect.
The case stems from protests held after Imran Khan’s removal from office, which authorities claim led to acts of vandalism and public disorder. Aleema Khan, a prominent philanthropist and businesswoman, has denied any wrongdoing, while her brother, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, remains in prison on multiple charges.
