Former U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Pakistan, China, and Russia are secretly conducting nuclear weapons tests, while the United States remains the only major power refraining from such activities.
In an interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes,” Trump stated that he has directed the Pentagon to immediately resume nuclear testing, asserting that “North Korea, Pakistan and other countries are conducting tests, but they don’t announce them.”
His remarks have sparked global concern that the United States may be preparing for its first nuclear test since 1992, potentially undermining decades of international non-proliferation efforts.
Trump further boasted that the U.S. possesses an arsenal capable of “destroying the world 150 times,” but argued that renewed testing is needed “to ensure these weapons function properly.”
He added, “Russia and China are testing quietly. We are the only ones who don’t, and I don’t want us to be the only country that doesn’t.”
The Foreign Office of Pakistan has not yet issued an official response to the allegations.
Analysts warn that Trump’s statements could challenge America’s long-standing commitment to nuclear restraint and destabilize international security frameworks, if Washington indeed moves to restart testing.
