Iran’s army chief, Abdolrahim Mousavi, has pledged to continue on the path of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, Mousavi said the Iranian military would remain committed to the path of the martyred Supreme Leader. Thanking the Iranian people for attending the funeral, he said the revolution’s path would continue “with full force” and described the public turnout as historic, saying it demonstrated the unbreakable bond between the nation and the ideals of the Islamic Revolution, sending a clear message to Iran’s enemies.
Over 40 Million Attend Six-Day Funeral Rites
Iranian state media reported that between 41 million and 43 million people attended the six-day funeral prayers and burial rites for Ayatollah Khamenei. A sea of mourners filled the streets of Mashhad to bid farewell to the late Supreme Leader. State broadcaster Press TV described the event as the largest funeral in world history. Ceremonies were held in Tehran, Qom, Najaf, Karbala, and Mashhad, with the main service taking place at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla Complex.
Delegations from Iran’s regional allies also took part, including representatives from Hamas and Islamic Jihad from Gaza, Hezbollah from Lebanon, and the Houthis from Yemen. Ayatollah Khamenei was laid to rest in the shrine complex of Imam Ali al-Ridha, four months after being killed in a joint US-Israeli strike.
IRGC Chief Vows Revenge, Warns US and Israel
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi vowed to avenge the killing of the Supreme Leader, issuing a stark warning to the United States and Israel. He said the assassination of Ayatollah Khamenei would never be erased from history’s memory, and that those responsible — particularly the US military — must face full justice. Vahidi said the US and all of Iran’s enemies should know that this “cowardly act” would never bring down the banner of resistance, vowing that the blood of the martyrs would be avenged.
